Accessibility Is Not Optional and It Is Not a Plugin

In the digital world, there are two kinds of websites. Those that are accessible. Those that are exposed.

For many years, businesses could get away with offering digital services that did not meet the needs of disabled users. That is no longer the case. The European Accessibility Act comes into force on 28 June 2025. It will apply to all businesses that sell or serve customers in the EU. It does not matter whether the company is based in the EU or not. If customers in the EU can access the website or app, the law applies.

This is not a future problem. This is happening now.

The whole subject can feel overwhelming. There is a lot of misinformation out there, especially from companies that claim to offer quick fixes. One truth remains. Accessibility is not something that can be added on. Not a plug-in. Not a toolbar. Not a script that promises overnight compliance.

Accessibility is a process. A responsibility. It means making sure that people with disabilities can use your website in the same way as everyone else. That takes proper coding. Proper testing. A real commitment to getting it right.

At Accessibility Audit, we do not sell software. Our team of disabled users test your website. They show you the barriers that exist. We explain what needs urgent action and what can wait. We also help you create an Accessibility Statement that truly protects you. Not a vague promise, but a real statement that complies with the regulations and shows a clear plan of action.

This is the way to reduce your legal risk. This is the way to avoid fines. This is the right thing to do.

Over the last year, many companies have contacted me in a panic. Some only recently realised that their Accessibility Statement does not meet legal standards. Others were misled into believing that an automated tool or overlay was all they needed. They have now discovered this is not the case. The EU will be looking for evidence of action. Not just intention. Not marketing language. Real, visible progress.

Leaving this too late will leave you exposed. Full remediation often takes months. Sometimes it takes a year or more. That is why the first step is so important. An accessibility audit carried out by real experts. A valid Accessibility Statement. A plan.

This is what we do.

Our clients include well-known organisations from both the public and private sectors, such as Great Ormond Street Hospital and Liz Earle. Our team of disabled testers bring a depth of understanding that no machine could ever replicate. We tell you the truth. We identify the issues. We help you fix them.

Accessibility is not just a technical issue. It is about your brand, your reputation, and your relationship with your users.

If your site is not accessible, people are being excluded. That is a fact. If people are excluded, you are not meeting your legal obligations.

This can be fixed. You can begin now.

The deadline is getting close. You may not be able to fix everything by then. Perfection is not the point. What matters is that you have taken real steps to understand and address the problems. A compliant Accessibility Statement shows that you know where the issues are and that work is underway. Without that statement, your business remains vulnerable.

If you are unsure what to do next, we can help. Our advice is always honest, always practical.

Accessibility changed my life. Now I want to help you change yours.
